چکیده

Laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy is becoming increasingly popular and has been shown to be a safe and successful technique w1,2x. The reported complications of this new technique have included transient thigh paraesthesia w3x, although significant neurological injury has not yet been reported. Nerve injury is reported to have an incidence of 2% in laparoscopic hernia repair w4x, usually involving the femoral branch of the genitofemoral nerve and the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh. There has been a recent report of damage to the ilioinguinal nerve using a 5 mm tacking device w4x. The case presented involves a tacking injury to the genitofemoral nerve occurring during laparoscopic donor nephrectomy.

Clipless management of the renal vein during hand-assist laparoscopic donor nephrectomy

BACKGROUND Laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy has become the preferred method of donor nephrectomy at many transplant centers. The laparoscopic stapling device is commonly used for division of the renal vessels. Malfunction of the stapling device can occur, and is often due to interference from previously placed clips. We report our experience with a clipless technique in which no vascular cli...

Systemic Heparinisation in Laparoscopic Live Donor Nephrectomy

Introduction. Systemic heparinisation is advocated during laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy (LDN) as a preventative measure against renal vascular thrombosis during the warm ischaemic interval. This study compares the outcome with and without the administration of systemic heparinisation. Methods. A retrospective analysis was performed on 186 consecutive LDN patients between April 2008 and No...

Incarcerated Spigelian Hernia Following Laparoscopic Living-Donor Nephrectomy

We present the case of an incarcerated Spigelian hernia that manifested 24 hours after a laparoscopic living-donor nephrectomy. The differential diagnosis, proposed management, and a review of the literature is presented. Bowel obstruction occurring within a few days following laparoscopic surgery is most often attributed to a hernia at a trocar site. In the case of living-donor nephrectomy. th...
